Earth Continental Geology by Era and Sea-Floor
Physiography Maps for Google Earth (KMZ and KML files)
The Earth geology.kmz file (460KB) loads
12 tiled images (shown below) into Google Earth to
produce a seamless, world coverage of continental geology by Era (except
for those areas lacking
coverage). The set of images totals 5.53
MB.
* Color scheme for the geology
coverage:
Yellow- Cretaceous, Green - Mesozoic, Pink - Paleozoic, Dark Gray -
PreCambrian
Orange - unknown age, including undated intrusive and volcanic igmeous
rocks.

Individual tiles can be dowlnloaded and viewed as text files, then saved
as KML files to be loaded
individually (see instructions
below).
Instructions:
1. Click on an image above to access the associated *.txt file.
2. Save the file to your desktop or a folder.
3. Rename the .txt filename extension to .kml.
3. Open the kml file in Google Earth.

* Maps are generated at the 1:30 million scale from shapefiles obtained
from the
US
Geological Survey and the
Geological
Survey of Canada.
