Hydrogeological Framework of the Brunswick Aquifer at the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association Well Field, Wargo Rd., Hopewell Twp., Mercer County, New Jersey

ABSTRACT: A hydrogeological framework study of the the Brunswick aquifer was conducted at the hydrogeological research site (well field) located in the nature preserve at the Stony Brook - Millstone Watershed Association, Hopewell Twp., Mercer County, New Jersey. The study incorporates borehole geophysical logs collected by the U.S. Geological Survey in 1994 in ten of  the thirteen wells drilled on site. Most of these wells were drilled in 1966 as test wells for a field project designed to demonstrate the anisotropic transmissive properties of shale bedrock. The data catalogued here incudes borehole geophysical data for nine wells including 6 of the research wells and 3 wells associated with the Honey Brook Organic Farm. Two of the  farm wells were drilled in 2003 and 2006 as test wells for potential alternate water supply sources for the farm. Optical televiewer data were collected by the N.J. Geological Survey for the wells that are drilled into red and gray mudstone and dark gray shale of the Passaic Formation. The study summarizes the orientation of stratigraphic bedding and tectonic fractures encountered in the well boreholes and the nature and locations of water-bearing features.
